Retail Therapy in Chelsea

Start at the front door
Chelsea shopping divides into four streets, and all of them begin within five minutes of 26 Cadogan Gardens. The order below is the one we would walk, ending with something to eat.

Our Guide
Sloane Street, for the flagships
Four minutes from the hotel, Sloane Street runs north towards Knightsbridge with the recognised names on both sides. Recently rebuilt with wider pavements and new planting, it is a more pleasant walk than it was. Go on a weekday morning if you would rather browse than queue, and ask the concierge to call ahead if you want a private appointment.
Pavilion Road, for food
Directly behind the hotel and the reason many guests never get further. A butcher, a baker, a fishmonger, a cheesemonger, a florist and a wine shop, all in converted mews stables.
Duke of York Square, for independents
Five minutes away, with the Saatchi Gallery at the back and a Saturday fine food market along the edge. Smaller labels, good bookshops and pavement tables when the sun is out.
The King's Road, for the long walk
Three minutes from the door and two miles long. The Sloane Square end has the bigger names, and it gets more interesting the further west you go, towards the antique markets and the Bluebird building.
Where to stop
Come back for afternoon tea in The Garden Room, served from 1pm to 6pm, or for a glass of Laurent-Perrier when the bags get heavy.
Chelsea is one of the few parts of London where the food shops are as good as the fashion.
